JAPAN: REMS OFFERS A MORE ACCURATE AND PRECICE CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS

“Radiofrequency Echographic Multispectrometry (REMS) can Overcome the Efects of Structural Internal Artifacts and Evaluate Bone Fragility Accurately”

Highlight:

REMS overcome DXA limitations due to the presence of artifacts, it is confirmed by a recent Japanese study published the last December by Calcified Tissue International, an important international scientific journal.

Seventy osteoporotic patients underwent both the ionizing DXA and the ultrasonographic REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) examinations. The results of the study recognize REMS superiority with respect to DXA, thanks to its capability to automatically exclude artifacts (prosthesis, fractures, calcifications, osteophytes, etc.), unlike DXA, which allows only to manually exclude artifacts by consequently inducing human error that can alter the diagnostic result, making the patient be healthier than he really is. This study documents, in fact, the presence of multiple vertebral fractures and vascular calcifications   in patients presenting discrepant diagnoses between REMS and DXA.

The Japanase researchers conclude, therefore, that REMS offers a more accurate measurement of bone health than DXA, by preventing bone degeneration, abdominal aorta calcifications, diabetes mellitus and all other pathologies that can cause damage to the bone.
