The Italian Foundation for Bone Diseases Research (FIRMO), in collaboration with Amgen, promotes ‘Il Piatto Forte’, a campaign for awareness raising and screening on the risk of fractures associated with osteoporosis. Echolight SpA chosen as the sole technology partner.
In view of the World Day of Osteoporosis, celebrated worldwide on October 20, the Italian Foundation for Bone Diseases Research (FIRMO) in partnership with Amgen presents « Il Piatto Forte », a campaign aimed to increase information on this silent and under-diagnosed pathology. The campaign was presented last September 12, 2017 in Rome and has received the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Health.
« If untreated, osteoporosis makes your bones fragile like porcelain » is the claim of the campaign, which will animate the squares of some Italian cities with various activities that will involve the population: information handled by medical specialists, bone health assessment with card risk for osteoporosis and bone mineral density measurement.
It is a great pleasure to announce that Echolight SpA has been chosen as the sole technology partner of the initiative promoted by FIRMO and AMGEN, and it will provide all interested citizens with a quick and radiation free bone densitometry examination at spine and hip through the innovative EchoS device, which is based on the new and proprietary R.E.M.S. (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) method, able to provide very accurate and repeatable information on bone density on the main reference anatomical sites affected by fracture (femoral neck and lumbar vertebrae).
Osteoporosis is still an under-diagnosed disease (only 3% of the fractured subjects have previously performed a diagnostic test) due to the low accessibility to the test or the late diagnosis. A proper preventive or therapeutic intervention works first of all by a proper radiation free diagnosis that can be performed as early as possible.
